Bookbyte.com began in 1999 as a home-based enterprise dedicated to making textbooks cheaper - and therefore more accessable - to students in universities and colleges across the nation. Over the years, Bookbyte.com has grown, but has retained its family style approach to business, and its commitment to community involvement. An integral part of that commitment is the support of valuable local and national community organizations, and good causes.

Over the past six years, Bookbyte.com has developed a close relationship with Garten Services Inc. Garten Services helps people with disabilities by creating employment opportunities for them within their community. One of the ventures Garten Services has founded is a recycling depot staffed by the disabled. Bookbyte.com has elected to use the depot's services to recycle all of its outdated or unusable books. In this way, Bookbyte.com is able to keep the landfills emptier while supporting a vital community organization.

For several years, Bookbyte.com has participated in a local "adopt-a-family" program. Adopt-a-family is an opportunity for people in the community to share in the holiday spirit by adopting a low-income family with children. Each holiday season, Bookbyte.com makes a financial contribution to support families at a women's shelter based in Salem, Oregon.

March of Dimes fights to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. Since 1970, March of Dimes has staged WalkAmerica: one of the most popular walking events in the nation. Over the years, WalkAmerica has raised more than $1.7 billion to fund support research and programs to help babies get a healty start. Bookbyte.com and its employees are proud to say that they are one of 20,000 companies across the nation that actively participates in this event.
